Firefox is the browser with comes with the default search engine as BING, but we globally and mostly use GOOGLE for our needs. Today i will teach you how to change the default search engine in Firefox. The Firefox have Address bar and Search box. We always used to search our queries in Address bar not on the Search box mostly.
You can notice that dedicated search box allows you to change the default search engine, You can change in ‘Manage Search Engines” but it only changes the Search box not the Address bar. Its easy to change the default search engine in Search box but its complicated to change the search engine in Address bar.
Step 1:
Open the New Tab or Window in your Firefox and type about:config into the address bar and click ENTER. It will take your to the Config Page of the Firefox, which says ‘ This might void your warranty‘. Don’t care about warranty,because doesn’t have one. This page is the advanced settings of the Firefox browser. Its for Advanced Users, so you should not mess with any stuffs without knowing. Don’t worry for this step i will guide you, so go ahead and click ‘I’ll be Carefull, I promise!’ button.
Step 2:
Now you can see lots of list with Codes in the page and you can see the Filter box, in that type KEYWORD.URL. Now you can see the only one Keyword is shown in the page. Right Click on it and Click MODIFY.
Step 3:
After Clicking Modify, Small popup box will appear, in that you can see default Bing URL, All you need to erase it and Paste the following URL which you need as default.
- For Google: http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&q=
- For Bing: http://www.bing.com/results.aspx?q=
- For Yahoo: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=
If you need you can replace the Google.com with your Regional Google domain. (ex. google.in, google.us). Even you can use your custom search engine, but all you need to type correct URL code, otherwise it will lead to error. After entering the URL, Click OK button.
Thats all, Changes made will take effect immediately, so open your new tab or window and type the Search query in your Address bar and enjoy your favorite Default Search Engine 
. Your Default Search Engines may change while installing some Toolbar to your Browser. So You have to do this steps again, if it changed by the annoying tool bars.

This is what I am looking for. Although Firefox is my secondary browser, but I always don’t use it for searching simply because I prefer Chrome as it uses Google!

it is very very useful. Literally i was going mad the unwanted search engine was giving a big headache. i even twice or thrice reloaded my firefox. still it was there. almost half of my holiday i tried in vian. ur website was very useful . i tried 3 times all ur steps still it was not going. Finally i saw ur video. The mistake i did was aftre typing the favourite url then click ok .what i did was I closed the window and reopened a new window, instead we should use the same window try to to some searches SO THAT the new search engine opens

i have one more query my VIDEODOWNLOADER CURSOR IS NOT WORKING in the internet explorer.vry time it says complete the video running but never work i could not download videos from IE.sametime videodownloader works only in old version of firefox

I am running ff 4.0. The only way I can get an OK button is:
select modify
click on new
click on string
Enter the string and in that box is an OK button BUT I have not been able to make this work because I cannot erase the search engine address from the keyword:URL line.
Just the thing I needed…..all of a sudden I’m searching with the address bar and up comes Yahoo instead of Google. Took me a bit to find the right words to use to find your information but I’m so glad you put it up for us to easily repair!
